'We're disappointed' – Racing Genk coach insists Arokodare deserved a penalty v Standard Liege

Racing Genk coach Thorsten Fink has expressed frustration over the decision not to award a penalty to striker Tolu Arokodare during their 2-1 defeat to Standard Liège in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday evening.

Arokodare, introduced after the break, made an immediate impact by scoring just three minutes into his appearance.

However, the Nigerian forward was denied a late penalty that could have handed the visitors a chance to level the score.

Speaking after the match, Fink expressed his frustration at the result, lamenting both the missed opportunities and the failure to capitalise on key moments.

"We're disappointed, because we really didn't deserve this. We did everything we could to win tonight, but luck was just not there," Fink told Racing Genk's official website.

The Genk boss lamented the decision to deny the Nigerian international a penalty in the closing minutes.

"We hit the crossbar twice and didn't get a penalty against Tolu," Fink added.

Arokodare, last season’s league top scorer, has endured a slow start to the campaign amid uncertainty over his future.

The Nigerian international has been linked with a summer move away from the club, with reports linking him with Serie A, Premier League and Bundesliga teams.

As the transfer window nears its close, Arokodare will be keen to resolve his future and recapture his best form in a bid to secure a recall to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
