Centre-back open to representing Super Eagles scores against Ipswich as Bromley make history

Central defender Deji Elerewe played a pivotal role in Bromley's historic achievement on Tuesday, scoring as the Lilywhites defeated Championship side Ipswich Town in a penalty shootout to reach the second round of the Carabao Cup for the first time in the club's history.

Before facing the Tractor Boys, Bromley's only previous appearance in the Carabao Cup came last year when they exited at the first hurdle with a 2-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon.

The Ravens took a half-time lead through Elerewe, who powered a bullet header into an unguarded net with Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton stranded.

Seven minutes after the restart, Ben Johnson levelled for the visitors with a composed low finish from a rebound, forcing a penalty shootout that Bromley edged 5-4.

Elerewe has contributed to Bromley's perfect defensive record at the start of the League Two campaign, completing the full 90 minutes against Shrewsbury Town before making a late appearance in the matchday two clash with Barnet.

Born in Croydon, London, the Charlton Athletic academy graduate is open to representing the Super Eagles.

He told allnigeriasoccer.com four years ago: "Right now I am not one hundred percent certain but whenever the situation comes I will discuss it with my family.

"I will be proud to represent both countries if the opportunity arises."

Deji Elerewe, who was on the books of Charlton Athletic for eight years, joined Bromley on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee in February 2024.
