French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice interested in Basel forward Kevin Carlos
Published: August 17, 2025
Reports from the Swiss media indicate that Spanish-born Nigerian striker Kevin Carlos is attracting interest from French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
Officially, the 24-year-old was listed as injured for Basel's cup tie against FC Biel-Bienne on Saturday, but speculation over a transfer has intensified in recent days.
According to Swiss German-language newspaper Blick, Basel are preparing for the possibility of Carlos departing before the end of the transfer window, a factor that played a role in the signing of Moritz Broschinski earlier this week.
Carlos joined Basel from Yverdon last summer in a deal worth over three million euros.
He enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at St. Jakob-Park, scoring 15 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions and quickly establishing himself as a key attacking player.
This season, Carlos has seen his role diminish, with veteran striker Albian Ajeti leading the line and the dual-national forward restricted mostly to the bench until his first start came in the 3-1 defeat to Lugano.
Should Carlos make the switch to Ligue 1, Basel may be forced to reassess their attacking depth despite Broschinski’s addition to the squad.
Before moving to Switzerland, the physical forward turned out for SD Huesca, Almudevar and Real Betis.
