Confirmed: Rangers add Brentford loanee Meghoma to UCL roster, squad number revealed
Published: August 19, 2025
According to UEFA's official website, England youth international of Nigerian descent Jayden Meghoma has been added to Rangers' Champions League roster ahead of Tuesday's playoff tie against Raphael Onyedika’s Club Brugge at Ibrox Stadium.
The 19-year-old defender joined the Light Blues on a season-long loan from Brentford on Sunday, August 17, and is now eligible to represent the club in both domestic and European competitions after receiving his International Transfer Certificate.
Although the deadline for the registration of new players for the Champions League playoffs was August 14, UEFA regulations allow clubs to add a maximum of two eligible players to List A provided the quota of locally trained players is respected.
Rangers have taken advantage of this provision to register Meghoma.
The Brentford loanee took part in his first training session with Rangers on Sunday and was also involved in the squad’s final workout at the Rangers Training Centre on Monday.
Should he be handed his debut against the Belgian Pro League side, Meghoma will wear the number 30 shirt.
Meghoma was not the only Nigeria-eligible player in training, with fellow summer signing Emmanuel Fernandez also joining the squad.
However, there was uncertainty over the availability of Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers, who was absent from the training photographs released by the club.
Rangers and Club Brugge are no strangers, having faced each other in a friendly at Ibrox last month that ended in a 2-2 draw, a result which suggests Tuesday's high-stakes encounter could once again be decided by fine margins.
