'Thank God' – Fenerbahce icon pleased to see Galatasaray star Osimhen open his season account
Published: August 27, 2025
Fenerbahce icon Volkan Demirel has expressed delight at seeing Victor Osimhen get off the mark in his second spell with Turkish champions Galatasaray.
The Nigeria international sealed a sensational €75 million permanent move to the Istanbul giants last month, a deal that shattered the Turkish Süper Lig's all-time transfer record.
After drawing a blank on his second debut against Fatih Karagümrük, Osimhen finally opened his account on matchday three, netting an 86th-minute goal in Galatasaray’s 4-0 victory over Kayserispor – a strike that sparked wild celebrations among the away supporters.
The former African Footballer of the Year previously enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Galatasaray, scoring 37 goals and providing eight assists as the club clinched a domestic double, cementing his place as a fan favourite.
"Thank God Osimhen scored. If he hadn't scored, there would have been chaos inside. What are those looks? He's giving everyone a break," Volkan Demirel was quoted as saying by habersarikirmizi.com.
"Thank God he scored, and both he and the Galatasaray players felt relieved.
"Of course, this is a joke. Last week, the opponent even got angry at him for scoring an own goal. He wants it."
Osimhen is expected to feature again when Galatasaray face Rizespor at the weekend before linking up with Nigeria's squad in Uyo for their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda's Wasps.
