Update on Newcastle forwards: Sanusi loaned out, Osula stays ahead of possible cap-tying game
Published: September 01, 2025
Premier League side Newcastle United have confirmed the temporary departure of Trevan Sanusi, while William Osula will remain with the club for the 2025/26 campaign.
Osula had been strongly linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, with both clubs holding talks on deadline day.
However, according to the Daily Mail's Craig Hope, negotiations collapsed on Monday afternoon after the two sides failed to reach an agreement.
As a result, Osula will stay at St. James' Park and provide backup to imminent arrivals Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
After scoring against Liverpool, the Aarhus native of Nigerian descent has been rewarded with a maiden call-up to Denmark's senior national team ahead of their World Cup qualifying fixtures against Scotland and Greece.
Should the attacker make an appearance in either match, even briefly, he would be cap-tied to Denmark and no longer eligible to represent Nigeria's Super Eagles.
If Osula features in either game, even for one second, he would become cap-tied to the Scandinavian nation and would no longer be eligible to represent the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, Newcastle announced via their official website that 18-year-old forward Trevan Sanusi has joined Ligue 1 side FC Lorient on loan for the 2025/26 season.
Sanusi, who penned a new deal earlier this summer, is eager to gain valuable first-team experience and continue his development in France.
Signed from Birmingham City in 2023, Sanusi made his senior debut in Newcastle's 3-1 FA Cup win over Bromley and has since been a regular for the U21s.
However, the Magpies will hope the loan spell will be successful and accelerates his development in Ligue 1.
