'I'm not afraid of Nigeria' - Indomitable Lions young star Eyong sends warning to Super Eagles
Published: November 13, 2025
Cameroon youngster Etta Eyong has issued a bold warning to the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs set to kick off this week in Rabat, Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions are drawn alongside Nigeria, DR Congo, and Gabon, with only one team advancing to the intercontinental playoffs for a chance to secure a ticket to the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Cameroon will face DR Congo in the semifinal clash, while Nigeria will battle Gabon in the other last-four encounter scheduled for Thursday evening.
Eyong expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome their rivals, insisting that the days of fearing Nigeria are long gone.
“For me the most dangerous, Nigeria was before but I am no more afraid. With the confidence of the team, we can take the three teams," Eyong told Sporty TV.
"Even though we have to play three matches against them to qualify, we are going to win the three games."
He further expressed confidence that the Indomitable Lions would get a positive result from the game and secure qualification for the intercontinental playoffs.
"It is not like then when Nigeria was frightening me during those days but I think we have the capacity and ability to win those games that are coming."
The 22-year-old Villarreal starlet has been in sensational form this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 12 league appearances.
If both Nigeria and Cameroon win their respective semifinal ties, they will face off in what promises to be a high-stakes final to determine who advances to the intercontinental playoffs.
