He stays: George's move to Fulham off, to be named in Chelsea's UCL squad
Published: September 01, 2025
Nigeria-eligible forward Tyrique George will remain at Chelsea after his proposed move to Fulham collapsed on deadline day, according to transfer market reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The 19-year-old, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Blues last campaign, was the subject of strong interest in the final days of the summer window.
George registered two goals and three assists in 20 appearances across the Premier League and UEFA Conference League, performances that earned him Chelsea’s Men’s Academy Player of the Year award.
Eager for regular first-team opportunities, George had been open to a switch, especially after Chelsea bolstered their attack with the arrivals of João Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, and Alejandro Garnacho.
However, negotiations with Fulham broke down at the last minute, forcing him to stay at Stamford Bridge for the 2025/26 campaign.
Despite fierce competition in the forward line, George will be included in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League squad.
Meanwhile, the Cottagers bolstered their attack by securing Samuel Chukwueze on loan from AC Milan.
Born in England, George has represented the country at various youth levels but remains eligible to play for Nigeria, having yet to make a senior appearance for the Three Lions.
His focus now will be on seizing opportunities to aid his development and establish himself in Chelsea’s first team.
