Bedford Town star among 3 players dropped as Rwanda announce travelling squad to Nigeria
Published: September 02, 2025
Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche has finalized his 24-man squad ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Uyo.
The announcement comes as the Amavubi prepare to travel to Nigeria with hopes of securing a positive result in their Group C campaign.
The team will rely on a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents, with goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwali of Kaizer Chiefs and captain Djihadi Bizimana of Al Ahly Tripoli expected to lead from the back.
Three players were dropped from the initial provisional list, including Bedford Town’s Claude Smith Kayibanda, Djabilu Ishimwe, and David Niyo.
The decision was made due to tactical considerations and fitness concerns, ensuring a streamlined squad ready for the challenges ahead.
Rwanda will aim to combine defensive discipline, midfield control, and attacking efficiency to challenge the Super Eagles on their home ground.
Head coach Amrouche has emphasized the need for a compact, well-organized squad that can cope with Nigeria’s pace and physicality, while also exploiting opportunities on the counter-attack.
The upcoming match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo represents a pivotal test for Rwanda.
A positive result could enhance their standing in Group C and provide momentum for the remainder of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
