Nwabali racing against time to join Super Eagles' Tuesday training, 15 players available
Published: September 02, 2025
The Super Eagles' preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa have gathered momentum in Uyo, with 15 players now in camp.
Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is racing against the clock to link up with the squad as the team gets set for its first training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Among the players already available to head coach Eric Chelle are Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Moses Simon, Chidozie Awaziem, Adebayo Adeleye, and Benjamin Fredericks.
They are joined by William Troost-Ekong, Amas Obasogie, Felix Agu, Bruno Onyemaechi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Frank Onyeka.
The squad is expected to train at the mainbowl of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium at 6 p.m., with tactical drills and fitness work likely to dominate the session as the team builds sharpness ahead of the double-header.
Nwabali, who has been a reliable figure between the posts, is anticipated to join later in the evening, providing further boost to the goalkeeping department.
Nigeria faces a crucial period in its World Cup qualifying campaign.
Currently sitting fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, the Super Eagles trail group leaders South Africa, who have amassed 13 points.
Rwanda and Benin Republic are close behind with eight points each, while Lesotho and Zimbabwe complete the standings with six and four points respectively.
The upcoming fixtures are widely regarded as pivotal for Nigeria’s qualification hopes.
The Super Eagles will first host Rwanda in Uyo before traveling to Bloemfontein to take on South Africa.
Anything short of maximum points could deal a major blow to their bid to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
