Super Eagles camp update: Lookman and Dessers report for international duty in Uyo pre-Rwanda
Published: September 03, 2025
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have welcomed a boost to their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with the arrival of forwards Ademola Lookman and Cyriel Dessers in Uyo.
Their arrival brings the number of players in camp to 18, with five more expected to join in the coming hours as head coach Eric Chelle finalizes his squad ahead of crucial Group C fixtures.
Lookman and Dessers, both experienced in European club football, are set to add firepower and versatility to Nigeria’s attacking options.
Their presence provides Chelle with additional tactical flexibility as the team gears up for crucial matches against Rwanda at home and South Africa away.
Training at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium has already been underway, with the squad focusing on tactical drills, fitness, and set-piece routines.
Chelle has emphasized cohesion and strategy as Nigeria seeks to turn their World Cup qualification campaign around.
The squad now includes notable players such as Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, William Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Ola Aina, Chidozie Awaziem, and Frank Onyeka, among others.
With the new arrivals, the team gains additional depth in both attack and midfield.
The Super Eagles will host Rwanda in Uyo before traveling to Bloemfontein to face South Africa.
With only maximum points likely to keep qualification hopes alive, the timely arrival of Lookman and Dessers is expected to play a key role in Nigeria’s push to climb the group standings.
The team now looks set to field a strengthened, balanced squad as they prepare for these decisive fixtures.
