Super Eagles trio Iwobi, Ola Aina, Osayi-Samuel send message to Nigerians ahead of WCQs
Published: September 03, 2025
With the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers fast approaching, key Super Eagles players have spoken out, urging Nigerians to rally behind the team as they prepare for decisive matches against Rwanda and South Africa.
Alex Iwobi, one of the team’s most experienced figures, stressed the importance of unity between the players and fans.
"My message will be to continue supporting us. As players, we believe. So if you guys can believe in us as well and give us the energy that we need to go and get the result that we want to achieve to go to the World Cup,” Iwobi told the Super Eagles media team.
He added that morale in camp is high. "The mood is good. Everyone's feeling good and optimistic.
"So we're excited to play our first game against Rwanda. Hopefully we can prepare well and, like I said, get the result we want."
Bright Osayi-Samuel echoed the sentiment, underlining the magnitude of the upcoming clash.
"Very important, possibly one of our most important games in the national team.
"We know how difficult it can be, but I have full belief in our squad and our coach and I ultimately believe that we got there."
Ola Aina, another regular in the squad, also appealed for fans to maintain their faith.
"A message to Nigerians is that, you know, we know it's a tough task ahead of us, but we're ready for the challenge and we're looking forward to it at the end of the day.
"So, it's another two games of football and we're going to try our best and we're looking forward to it. So keep believing and supporting."
The Super Eagles are currently in camp in Uyo, where head coach Eric Chelle has been overseeing preparations.
With stars like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ademola Lookman now training alongside Iwobi, Osayi-Samuel, and Aina, the squad is considered fully equipped for the crucial encounters.
Nigeria hosts Rwanda in Uyo before traveling to Bloemfontein to take on South Africa, with both fixtures set to play a crucial role in determining their qualification path.
