Ngumoha's historic strike nominated for PL GOTM, how you can help Liverpool kid win the award
Published: September 04, 2025
England youth international of Nigerian descent Rio Ngumoha has been shortlisted for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for August following his sensational strike against Newcastle United at St. James' Park on August 25, 2025.
The 17-year-old etched his name into Liverpool’s history books by becoming the club’s youngest-ever scorer, netting at the age of 16 years and 361 days.
His dramatic winner in the 100th minute capped a thrilling 3-2 victory for the Premier League champions on Tyneside.
After William Osula's 88th-minute equaliser had seemingly secured a point for Newcastle, Ngumoha stepped off the bench to decide the contest.
The teenager showed remarkable composure to sweep home Mohamed Salah's low cross, following a deft dummy by Dominik Szoboszlai, sparking wild celebrations among the travelling supporters.
Ngumoha's strike sees him nominated alongside West Ham United's Lucas Paquetá, Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, Tottenham Hotspur's Richarlison, Everton's James Garner and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Liverpool teammate Szoboszlai, and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi.
It was not Ngumoha's first historic moment in a Liverpool shirt, having become the club's youngest-ever starter at 16 years and 135 days in January's 4-0 FA Cup victory over Accrington.
Ngumoha is expected to put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club this month.
Voting for the Premier League Goal of the Month closes at 12 noon BST on Monday, September 8, with the winner set to be announced on Friday, September 12.
