'Supported him' – Super Eagles captain insists Lookman is highly motivated to face Rwanda

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has assured that teammate Ademola Lookman remains highly motivated despite recent transfer window frustrations, as Nigeria prepares to face Rwanda in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Lookman, who handed in a transfer request in a bid to force a move away from Atalanta during the summer window, failed to secure a deal and has yet to feature for the Serie A side this season.

His lack of game time has raised concerns over his fitness and readiness for international duty.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Troost-Ekong played down those fears, insisting the 27-year-old forward has shown great commitment and determination in camp.

“The summer transfer window is always particular when you have a team full of talented players like we always do in Nigeria,” Ekong said.

"There's no wonder there is going to be movement. Players making the step up. Also making a small reference to Ademola Lookman, I think all of us have really followed and supported him. The coach said he's the best player in Africa.

"With what I have seen these days, he's even more motivated. The Lookman that we know, he's even consistently motivated, worked and trained hard."

The captain emphasized the importance of the match, noting that the squad has held several meetings to reinforce their focus ahead of the encounter.

"It is not my choice to make but I can only speak on behalf of the players, everybody here is focused on the game tomorrow.

"We have had meetings among ourselves and with the coaching staff. There's been a lot of talk about the importance and the gravity of the game tomorrow.

"The only thing I can say is that we are focused. We know what to do and have trained the right way.

"I think you can confidence from good preparation and that's what we have done this week. What's left for us to talk on the pitch tomorrow,."

Nigeria are currently fourth in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers and will be hoping to secure maximum points against Rwanda.
