Confirmed: Super Eagles-eligible forward signs new deal with Liverpool after breaking club records

Through a statement on the official website, Premier League champions Liverpool have announced that Super Eagles-eligible forward Rio Ngumoha has signed a new deal, a year after his arrival at Anfield from Chelsea.

In line with Premier League regulations, players in their U17 year must first agree to scholarship terms before being eligible to pen a professional contract upon turning 17.

Having celebrated his 17th birthday on August 29, 2025, Ngumoha has now committed his future to the Reds by signing his first professional contract.

The duration of the deal has not been disclosed, though under current rules players under 18 cannot sign contracts longer than three years.

The England U19 international of Nigerian descent has made five first team appearances to date, including debuts in the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and UEFA Champions League.

In his first season at Liverpool, he represented the club in the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup, totaling 25 appearances and registering six goal involvements (2 goals, 4 assists).

His Premier League debut on August 25 will be long remembered as he struck a dramatic winner in the 100th minute to seal victory over Newcastle United.

With the strike, Ngumoha became Liverpool's youngest player ever to score a winning goal in the Premier League at 16 years and 361 days.

Only last week, the English-Nigerian attacker further enhanced his reputation by becoming Liverpool's youngest player to feature in a major European competition at 17 years and 19 days.
