Super Eagles striker Osimhen returns to action as Galatasaray make Super Lig history
Published: September 27, 2025
Victor Osimhen marked his return from injury as Galatasaray secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Alanyaspor, a result that etched their name into the history books with a perfect start to the 2025-2026 Super Lig season.
The Nigerian striker, making his fourth league appearance of the campaign, came off the bench in the 85th minute to replace Barış Alper Yılmaz.
Osimhen had already found the net twice this season before suffering an ankle injury while representing the Super Eagles earlier this month.
His comeback provides a significant boost to Okan Buruk’s side, who are brimming with confidence after their record-breaking start.
Mauro Icardi delivered the decisive moment in the 23rd minute, latching onto a clever pass from Wilfried Singo before slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
The victory means Galatasaray have now opened a league campaign with seven straight wins for the first time in their storied history, highlighting their strong intent to defend their crown.
Attention now shifts to Europe, where the Turkish champions will host Liverpool in a highly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday.
With Osimhen back in contention, he is in contention to return to the starting lineup as Galatasaray look to continue their momentum on the continental stage.
