Published: March 31, 2013
Paul Obiefule has played several seasons in the Norwegian Tippeligaen and also has caps with the Super Eagles. But the last time he represented the national team was in 2007.
Most recently, the 26-year-old midfielder chose not to extend his expiring contract with Finnish KuPS.
Fotbolltansfers.com recently reported that he was training with Assyriska. Now, Paul Obiefule has signed a three-year contract.
''We had actually decided not to bring in more central midfielders but has convinced large during his trials, and crowned it with a great effort in yesterday's rehearsal.
''He is one of the players we need in the squad, he works hard, has a good passing game and good understanding of the game.
''He is very experienced and helps with routine to our otherwise young squad. We are very pleased to tie him to the Assyrian, ''says club chief Aydin Aho to Assyriska's official website.
Paul Obiefule, who was earlier linked with clubs in China, Norway and Denmark, is delighted with his move.
''I am very grateful to get to Assyriska. I have heard many good things about the club and been treated in an amazing way.
''I'm happy to be here and help the club. I will do my best and look forward to start the season,'' Obiefule told assyriska.se.
Paul Obiefule could make his official debut next weekend against östersunds FK at Jämtkraft Arena.
