Official: Tottenham Hotspur confirm talented Nigerian forward has signed a new contract
Published: January 19, 2024
With a statement on their official website, Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that talented Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi has committed his future to the club after putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported in November 2023 that Tottenham were in talks with Ajayi over a new contract, with the player expected to sign his first professional contract if an agreement was struck.
Tottenham have confirmed as much, stating that Ajayi has gone professional after signing his new contract.
The promising teenager started the 2023-2024 season as a second year scholar and would have walked away as a free agent at the end of the campaign if terms were not agreed.
Ajayi is highly thought of by the first team coaches at Tottanham, given that he trained with the senior players before the squad traveled to Australia and Asia for pre-season matches ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
And at the tail end of last season, he was named in the provisional squad for the Premier League meeting with Leeds United as he traveled with the first team to Elland Road as the 21st player.
A member of the Spurs side that won the U17 and U18 Premier League Cup double in 2022-2023, Ajayi has represented the youth teams in the U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup, EFL Trophy and U18 Premier League Cup this season and has seven goals to his name.
