Confirmed: Striker who visited Super Eagles' London camp in May signs new Chelsea deal
Published: July 18, 2025
English Premier League giants Chelsea have announced their new intake of academy scholars for the 2025-2026 season.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported twenty days ago that highly-rated striker of Nigerian descent, Chizaram Ezenwata, had reached an agreement on two deals with Chelsea ahead of pre-season preparations.
Chelsea have now confirmed the report, announcing that Ezenwata is among the sixteen scholars to have signed scholarship agreements with the club, officially marking the start of their journey into full-time football.
Two months ago, Chizzy visited the Super Eagles' camp in West London with his father Ndubuisi Ezenwata, where he received a warm welcome from manager Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles players amid discussions about representing Nigeria at U20 or Olympic level.
Chizzy comes from a footballing family — his dad played for Nigerian club Gombe United under the acclaimed youth coach Manu Garba, while his younger brother Chetam Ezenwata is a defender in Charlton Athletic's youth team.
He joined Chelsea at U15 level after spells with the academy teams of Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic.
In his final season as a schoolboy, he ended the 2024-2025 campaign as Chelsea U18s top scorer and made his competitive debut for the U21s, coming off the bench for the final seven minutes of a Premier League 2 fixture against Manchester City.
On the international stage, Ezenwata scored a brace on his competitive debut for England U17s in a European Championship qualifier against Malta in October 2024.
Chelsea's other first year scholars are Chris Atherton, Toby Bell, Jeremiah Berkeley-Agyepong, Freddy Bernal, Calvin Diakite, Mathis Eboue, Jacob Hall, Charlie Holland, Ryan Kavuma-McQueen, Isago Silva, Ibrahim Rabbaj, Lewi Richards, Joel Philbert, Dante Waite and Reggie Walsh.
The new scholars will be managed at U18 level by Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman, who dreams of one day coaching five-time world champions, the Golden Eaglets.
