Felix Agu's future at Werder Bremen remains uncertain after the club withdrew an initial offer to extend his contract, according to German outlet Deichstube.
The Super Eagles defender's current deal expires on June 30, 2027, and negotiations over a new contract started several months ago.
However, talks have now been put on hold as Agu focuses on recovering from his latest muscular problem.
Werder's head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed that both parties had agreed to prioritize the defender's recovery before returning to negotiations.
Agu had previously received a ready-to-sign offer from the Bundesliga club, but the terms failed to fully convince him.
With his injury issues also becoming a concern, the offer has since been withdrawn, meaning negotiations will effectively start again when talks resume.
Agu has remained highly valued by Werder since joining the club in 2020, and the club is open to keeping him beyond 2027.
His injury record could influence their decision, with the versatile right-back missing 69 league matches since arriving in Bremen.
