'Ajayi was complaining' - Hull coach confirms Super Eagles CB suffered hamstring injury v Man Utd

Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has explained the reason behind the substitution of Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi, revealing that the Nigerian complained of a hamstring injury.

Ajayi impressed for the Tigers on their return to Premier League football, finding the back of the net as Hull City secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium.

The Nigeria international reacted quickest to smash home from close range after the Red Devils failed to clear a corner kick in the 17th minute of the first half.

However, the former Arsenal defender was forced off through injury during the second half, with Paddy McNair coming on to take his position in the 64th minute.

Speaking to reporters post-match, Jakirovic said the substitutions were not part of the original plan, explaining that the club made four changes in the defensive line due to injury concerns.

“It was not the plan. We made four substitutions in the defensive line,” Jakirovic said. “I don't know, after medical check I will know much more.”

He revealed that the Nigerian International complained of a hamstring problem before he was substituted in the second half.

“Ajayi was complaining about his hamstring and Nobel on adductor. Coyle always with his ankles.

"That is normal. Maybe we will bring some new players again. We have ten days to go, we will see. It depends on their problems,” he concluded.

His situation will be a major concern for the Tigers, with the former West Bromwich Albion defender having suffered from recurring injury problems since joining the club.

The 32-year-old missed 14 matches through injury during the Championship campaign as Hull City secured promotion to the Premier League.

Ajayi will be assessed over the next 48 hours and is considered a doubt for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup encounter against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.
