Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi has named former Super Eagles striker Rashidi Yekini, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba as his role models in football following his summer move to the club.
Awoniyi recently completed a permanent move to the newly-promoted Premier League club during the current summer window after an impressive end to the 2025/2026 campaign.
The Nigerian international endured a difficult start to last season but finished the campaign strongly, scoring three goals and providing two assists in his final six appearances for Nottingham Forest.
Despite his improved performances towards the end of the campaign, Awoniyi remained behind Chris Wood and Brazilian forward Igor Jesus in the pecking order at the City Ground, creating uncertainty over his future.
Speaking during an interview session with fellow Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka, the Nigerian striker revealed the players who inspired him throughout his career.
“When I watch the video clip of the late Rashidi Yekini of Nigeria, Theirry Henry, and Didier Drogba of course,” Awoniyi said.
The Coventry City forward also revealed the best moments of his career so far, highlighting his success with the Golden Eaglets and his eventual move to the Premier League.
“When we won the U17 World Cup and also when I moved to the Premier League,” he revealed.
Awoniyi will now be hoping to start a new chapter at the CBS Arena as he looks to rediscover his best form and deliver consistent goals for Coventry City.
Ahead of the start of the 2026/2027 campaign, the Nigerian striker will be keen to play a key role in helping the newly-promoted side maintain their Premier League status.
