'It was a spectacular match' - NFF executive not ruling out another Nigeria v Russia clash in Africa

Acting Deputy Secretary General of the Nigerian Football Federation, Ademola Olajire, has refused to rule out the possibility of Nigeria and Russia meeting again in Africa in the future.

For the second time in 16 months, Russia faced the Super Eagles, with the two sides playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Sovcombank Arena in Nizhny Novgorod.

Nigeria found themselves two goals down with just 12 minutes of normal time remaining, but Peter Edokpolor and Akor Adams struck to help the three-time African champions salvage a draw.

The latest encounter followed another draw between the sides in June 2025 when the Super Eagles came from behind after Tolu Arokodare came off the bench to cancel out Semi Ajayi's own goal.

Olajire was pleased with Nigeria's performance, given the circumstances surrounding the squad, including injuries that affected the team.

"Our team played well, considering all the circumstances, injuries, and restrictions that weakened our squad," Olajire told Sport24.

"It was a spectacular match! Regarding a possible next meeting, I don't have the authority to promise that Nigeria will invite the Russian team to a friendly match at home.

"But in the future, we would consider holding such a match in Africa."

Nigeria began the September/October international window with a win over Madagascar, followed by a defeat to Guinea-Bissau and a draw against Russia in their third and final match.
