Shola Ameobi Regrets Afcon No Show
Published: September 08, 2013
Newcastle United attacker Shola Ameobi made his competitive debut for Nigeria's National Team in the 2 - 0 defeat of Malawi.
Ameobi's other two appearances came in exhibition matches against South Africa and Venezuela.
He would have represented the Super Eagles at the African Cup of Nations but a clause in his contract prevented him from honoring the invitation of the national team selectors.
'' Obviously it is a regret that I couldn't make it. Things were said and it transpired that I couldn't make it, but I rejoice for the nation.
"It was a great moment for them, and they really went and showed the world that they are a good side and I'm proud to be able to join this group of guys," says Shola Ameobi to kickoffnigeria.com.
