FC Lokoja Players Agree To Honour Nationwide League Match
Published: May 22, 2015
Fans of FC Lokoja can heave a sigh of relief as players of the club have agreed to honour the Nigeria Nationwide League week three match against Kwara Feeders.
The players who claimed to be owed five months salaries had threatened to boycott the crunch match - but after a brief meeting with the decision makers of the team they changed their minds.
A top official of the Lokoja-based team, who pleaded anonymity said on Thursday that the players said that they won’t be pushed around, but only consented to the wishes of the management due to the love of the fans for the team.
“I must confess it was tough for us to convince to them to play. We had to appeal to them that we will fulfil our obligations to them as soon as possible.
“As I’m talking to you the boys are already training in readiness for a massive victory on Friday,” the official added.
A key player of the team praised Alhaji Umaru Isah for his love after the Kogi State FA Chairman doled out the sum of =N= 5, 000 each to the 27 players on the pay-roll of the team after the peace meeting on Thursday.
The highest paid player in the third-tier league side earns the sum of =N=20,000, according to a reliable source at the club.
