Falcons Coach, Edwin Okon Optimistic Nigeria Will Qualify For Second Round
Published: June 13, 2015
Nigeria coach Edwin Okon is optimistic that the Super Falcons will recover from their disappointing 2 - 0 defeat against Australia when they face USA in their last Group D fixture.
With only 1 point in their kitty after two rounds, the African champions must beat the Americans to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Something they have managed to do in three previous attempts.
“I thought it was a very good match. I congratulate the winners, Australia. We have to get back out and score goals, ”Edwin Okon said in his post match comments.
“We must qualify. Nigeria must qualify to the next round. So we must get back to the form we had against Sweden. ”
The United States thrashed Nigeria 7 - 1 in both countries first meeting at the World Cup in 1999.
Four years later when they hosted the tournament, the hosts beat the African champions 5 - 0 and in 2007 it ended 1 - 0 in favour of USA.
