Revealed : Aalesund Needed To Sell Leke James Before Signing Austin Ikenna

Austin Ikenna has opened up on the circumstances that led to his botched move to Aalesund in the summer transfer market, with the player revealing that the club had targeted him to replace the much - coveted striker Leke James
And soon after his failed transfer to the Color Line Stadium, the former AFC Leopards penned a two - and - a - half - year deal with Norwegian Premier League rivals IK Start.
“What really happened is that they told me they need to pay foreigners a specific amount of money to be able to apply for a work permit, so they said they need to sell Leke James before they could sign me, ” Austin Ikenna told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I was asked if I could come back in January but the agent that brought me here told them no and brought me to IK Start. I did not have any contact with Owello before I signed. ”
Ikenna may be struggling to tie down a regular first team shirt but helping IK Start beat the drop at the end of the 2015 season is one of his main priorities .
“We are struggling but I believe we will escape relegation, hopefully next season will be better.
“Personally my aim and target is to remain in the Premier League and be in the team that will fight for trophies, but my dream is to play in the Champions League and I am working hard towards it, ” he added.
The 22 - year - old has registered 3 goals in 4 matches for IK Start’s reserve team but has failed to hit target in 3 Tippeligaen games.
