NFF Takes Controversial Decision That Threatens Plateau United Promotion Status
Published: October 16, 2015
The Organizing and Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation took a highly controversial decision on the match day 14 tie of the Nigeria National League game between Spotlight FC of Katsina and Plateau United FC of Jos at the Katsina township Stadium which is now threatening Plateau United’s promotion status.
The Nigeria National League, NNL, was said to have fixed the final games of the Division A1 games to run simultaneously but the game in Katsina was said to have started 13 minutes behind schedule.
The match in Katsina ended 2-1 in favour of visiting Plateau United, who grabbed the sole promotion ticket on 26 points, dislodging second placed Adamawa United of Yola, who also had won away in Abuja against Supreme Court.
If the decision of the O&D stands, it will mean Adamawa United will take the place of Plateau United as the promoted team in division A1 of the NNL.
Over the years, Nigerians have watched with awe and disbelief the odd happenings in the NNL where strange manipulations have helped teams to gain promotion to the elite league, particularly the award of undeserved points from the boardroom.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has tried to contact the Chairman of the NNL, Chief Emeka Inyama, for comments but his lines were not connecting.
