Defending champions Nigeria have set up a meeting with Brazil in the quarter - finals of the Fifa Under 17 World Cup following their 6 - 0 thrashing of Australia at Estadio Sausalito on Thursday morning.
On 22 minutes, candidate for the top scorer award, Victor Osimhen, smashed open the floodgates when he rounded his marker before firing past goalkeeper Dragicevic.
Thus, the Ultimate Strikers starlet entered the history books for being the first Nigerian player to score in four consecutive matches at the Fifa U17s, breaking the record he earlier shared with Nwankwo Kanu (1993), Karimu Shaibu (2001) and Macauley Chrisantus (2007), who netted in three straight games.
Three minutes later after his goal, the referee awarded a spot kick , which was dispatched by skipper Kelechi Nwakali, after Funsho Bamgboye was felled.
Osimhen made it 3 - 0 in the 73rd minute, smashing home from close range after being set up by John Lazarus.
On 79 minutes, Osimhen scored his third goal in controversial circumstances , with the striker fouling his marker before curling the ball past Dragicevic.
Substitute Edidiong Essien put the Golden Eaglets five goals ahead four minutes from time with a diving header before Samuel Chukwueze added more gloss to the scoreline with his third goal of the tourney in the 88th minute.
