Defending champions Nigeria have advanced to the final of the Fifa Under 17 World Cup on the heels of their 4 - 2 win against Mexico in a thrilling game staged at the Estadio Municipal Ester Roa Concepcion on Friday morning.
In the early stages, the CONCACAF side had the upper hand but the Golden Eaglets came back into the game and showed why they are regarded as the best Under 17 team in the world.
Kevin Magana broke the deadlock in the 7th minute, firing home past Akpan, who had made a couple of saves to keep the scoreline level before his defense was breached.
Ten minutes before the interval, skipper Kelechi Nwakali scored a brilliant curling free - kick to draw level and Okonkwo made it 2 - 1 with a candidate for goal of the tournament, firing a ball from outside the box that went into the corner in the 43rd minute.
On 59 minutes, Mexico equalized through Cortes. He dribbled past five Nigerian players before slotting the ball past Akpan.
Ebere restored the Golden Eaglets one - goal lead in the 67th minute and seven minutes from time, Victor Osimhen netted his ninth goal of the tourney from the penalty spot after John Lazarus was felled in the penalty box.
