Eguma Unleashes Konance On FC Ifeanyi Ubah
Published: February 28, 2016
Stanley Eguma has made four changes to the side that lost 1-2 to Mountain of Fire (MFM) FC in midweek for Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clash with FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
Joseph Douhadji was largely culpable for the penalty which led to MFM’s first goal at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday and he has been dropped with Gabriel Olalekan taking his place in the starting XI for the match day three NPFL game against FCIU on Sunday.
Daniel Israel is completely omitted from the match day squad after a poor showing in Lagos while Victor Alegbe and Felix Benjamin were dropped to the bench.
Eguma has done what many will view as logical as Guy Konance, widely viewed as United’s best player on Wednesday, starts against the billionaires from Nnewi.
Konance was introduced as a second half substitute against MFM and he turned the game on its head with dare devil dribbling, poise, balance, vision and intelligence which culminated in a fantastic assist for United’s consolation.
Daniel Israel who started in the defeat to MFM is left out of the match day squad entirely.
Bernard Ovoke who was surprisingly dropped to the bench against MFM starts on Sunday but the big news is that goalscoring machine, Godbless Asamoah is in line to make his debut this season.
The Ghanaian attacker who plundered nine league goals for Dolphins last season however starts on the bench after being ommited from the match day squad on Wednesday.
There is more cheering news for the United support as Chinonso Okonkwo’s clearance has finally pulled through and the former Enyimba man could also make his debut as he starts Sunday’s game from the bench.
Eguma was in upbeat mood as he discussed his selections with the Rivers United media team.
“We were not very sharp in Lagos especially in the first half of the defeat to MFM.
“The team is looking stronger now with more players joining us.
“We are facing a very difficult side (on Sunday) but we just have to fight and give our best,” the technical manager said.
Sunday’s game kicks off at 4pm at the Yakubu Gown Stadium (former Liberation Stadium), Port Harcourt.
