Fleetwood Town Boss Hails Aerial Threat Of Shola Ameobi
Published: March 02, 2016
Fleetwood Town boss Steven Pressley has revealed that former Nigeria international Shola Ameobi had to return to the starting XI for the 2-1 win against Gillingham FC on Tuesday night due to his aerial threat.
Having started on the bench in the League One tie against Coventry City, the former Newcastle hero repaid the manager’s faith by opening his account in the ninth minute of the contest at Highbury Stadium.
“One of the reasons I made the change tonight with Shola coming back in was because they were a team in general who gave up opportunities to cross against them,” Steven Pressley told reporters.
“We managed to cross brilliantly for his goal, and in the early stages of the game he was a constant threat for us. ”
The 34-year-old Ameobi, who is tied to Fleetwood Town until June, has suited up five times for the club in the third-tier.
