Nigeria U23s Coach Warns Tottenham Hotspur Winger Oduwa, Liverpool Striker Awoniyi, 5 Others They Risk Being Dropped
Published: May 24, 2016
Nigeria U23s coach Samson Siasia has warned that all the foreign-based
professionals called up for the Suwon Invitational Tournament have until
Wednesday to report to camp or risk being dropped from the 2016 Olympic
Games.
Eight players based abroad were handed invitations including Tottenham Hotspur winger Nathan Oduwa, Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi and skipper Azubuike Okechukwu.
Other players that made the roster for the competition in South Korea include Amuzie Stanley, Usman Mohammed, Sodiq Popoola, Saviour Godwin and Saturday Keigo, who arrived in camp on Sunday.
“It is annoying that these boys have not placed the same importance myself and other members of the technical crew have placed on the Olympics,” Samson Siasia told thenff.com.
“I have information that aside one or two players who are involved in their team’s play –off games, the others have arrived the country but have just refused to report to camp.
“If they don’t report to camp on time, how can I work on them to know their level of adaptability to my game plan? It’s frustrating sometimes.”
As part of their preparations for the Suwon tourney, the Nigeria U23s will face a local club in a scrimmage on Thursday.
