'No rush' - Agent backs Brentford long-throw specialist on Eric Chelle's radar for Italy call-up
Published: October 27, 2025
Claudio Vigorelli, the agent of Brentford fullback Michael Kayode, has expressed confidence that the youngster will soon earn a call-up to the Italian national team amid growing interest from Nigeria.
Kayode, who has become renowned for his long throws and energetic performances at right-back, has been one of Brentford's standout players since the start of the campaign.
His consistent form in the Premier League has not only impressed fans but also caught the attention of national selectors.
Despite his impressive run, the 21-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for Italy, leaving the door open for a potential switch to Nigeria.
Vigorelli urged patience regarding his client's international future, stressing that the former Fiorentina man still has time on his side.
"There's no rush. Michael was born in 2004 and will have the opportunity to secure a call-up to the senior national team in the short to medium term," Vigorelli said to Tuttomercatoweb.
Kayode, who has previously represented Italy at youth level, has not featured for the U21s since the start of the season.
However, Vigorelli remains confident that Kayode's outstanding performances in the Premier League will earn him a recall to Italy's U21 squad.
"It would be the culmination of a season that's starting well and we hope will continue to improve.
"Playing for the national team is the dream of any Italian footballer; Nicolò will do everything he can to win it back, and if he continues like this, I'm sure he'll get it back."
Meanwhile, Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle is closely monitoring the Brentford defender as part of plans to strengthen the squad ahead of major tournaments.
Nigeria is gearing up to compete at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco while also striving to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
