'Slot is a big admirer' - Ikpeba urges Liverpool to sign Bournemouth's Afcon-bound forward
Published: October 27, 2025
Former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba has urged reigning Premier League champions Liverpool to explore a January move for Ghana international Antoine Semenyo.
The Bournemouth forward is set to feature in manager Otto Addo's squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, provided he remains fit.
Semenyo started every World Cup qualifier for the Black Stars, with the exception of the 4-3 home victory over the Central African Republic.
After a string of eye-catching performances, Semenyo is being linked with a potential transfer once the January window opens.
He made an immediate impression on the opening day of the season, scoring twice as Bournemouth fell 4-2 to Liverpool at Anfield.
The Reds are keeping close tabs on Semenyo, who is reportedly valued in excess of £75 million by the Cherries.
1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner Ikpeba believes Semenyo could offer Liverpool a new dimension in attack.
"Maybe in January, Liverpool will try to sign him. After the first game of the season, Liverpool versus Bournemouth, you know he scored two brilliant goals," Ikpeba said on SuperSport's Monday Night Football, monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.
"I saw Slot go over to him after the match to congratulate him. He spoke with him; he's a big admirer of Semenyo.
"He can play for Liverpool from the left side. I do feel Semenyo would bring more to this Liverpool team. Gakpo can play as a striker too.
"It's not about dropping Hugo Ekitike, but about creating competition."
Semenyo has been instrumental in Bournemouth's strong start to the season, helping the club sit second in the Premier League table with nine goal involvements in as many matches.
