Promising Nigerian Midfielder Scores First Goal For Chelsea Eight Years After Joining Academy
Published: August 20, 2016
Promising Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe was on target as the U18 team of Chelsea lost 3-2 to their Southampton counterparts in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon at Staplewood Training Ground.
The hosts went in front in the 14th minute, thanks to Mdlasose’s striker, but Uwakwe equalized 13 minutes later after he had come close to opening scoring earlier.
McEachran’s low drive into the top corner put Chelsea 2-1 up on 54 minutes, before a brace from Johson sealed the win for the Saints.
The 16-year-old Uwakwe started last weekend as Chelsea beat Fulham 3-2 on the opening day and subbed out in the 66th minute.
His strike against Southampton was his first goal for the youth team of Chelsea since he joined the club eight years ago.
