'7 points since the international break' - Hull City's Ajayi highlights positives despite draw v Charlton
Published: October 28, 2025
Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has played down Hull City's disappointment after their 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic on Saturday at the MKM Stadium, insisting the team remains focused on the positives from their recent run of form.
The Tigers were on the brink of sealing all three points after Joe Gelhardt's strike early in the second half put them in front.
However, Luke Berry's 91st-minute equaliser denied the Tigers a first victory over Charlton in four years.
Speaking after the match, Ajayi admitted the result was frustrating but urged fans to consider the team’s broader progress.
"Yeah, for sure (disappointed), we go to every game wanting to win," he said to Hull Live.
"Today (Saturday) was no different, so to be in the position we were in, we were definitely disappointed not to come away with the three points.”
Despite the late setback, the Nigerian international highlighted Hull’s strong recent form as a sign of progress.
"But, if you look at the bigger picture, seven points since the international break and what, 10 from the last 12? There's definitely a lot of positives we can take from the week in total," Ajayi added.
Ajayi also praised his teammates for their resilience and revealed that the squad has already analysed what went wrong in the closing stages.
"That's credit to the boys. It would obviously have been nice to see out the three points, but it's not all doom and gloom."
The former Arsenal defender noted that the team recognizes its mistakes and is determined to correct them in the upcoming matches for the remainder of the season.
"We spoke about it in the changing room after the game. We know exactly the few details that we missed out on that would have prevented that (equalising goal), and now it's down to us to put that right and for the rest of the season moving forward.”
Ajayi, who joined the Tigers on a free transfer in the summer, has established himself as a key figure and leader within the squad.
Having recently returned from injury, Ajayi will be eager to see the Tigers bounce back from the setback and claim victory in their next fixture against Norwich City.
