Obafemi Martins To Pocket N4 Billion In New One-Year Deal With Shanghai Shenhua
Published: October 30, 2016
Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has extended his contract with Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua.
The former Inter Milan, Newcastle United and Wolfsburg star first penned a one-season deal with the Gregorio Manzano-led side, but will now stay with the club until the end of the 2017 season based on the new agreement.
Prior to today’s clash with Changchun Yatai , Martins had averaged 0.5 goals per game (15 goals from 30 appearances) in the current season, and those stats played a key role in the club’s decision to activate the one year contract extension clause earlier inserted into his deal in February 2016.
The 32-year-old will pocket $9 million wages (equivalent of N4.1 billion) in the new deal that he signed, $2.4 million more than he was paid in 2016.
Martins has also represented Seattle Sounders, Rubin Kazan, Levante UD and Birmingham City.
