Revealed : What Panicky Super Eagles GK Trainer, Alloy Agu Told Daniel Akpeyi
Published: November 03, 2016
Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu was the bearer of the good news regarding Daniel Akpeyi’s late call-up to the national team, contrary to rumours in the local press that he was contacted by manager Gernot Rohr.
Immediately after Chippa United’s 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits in the South African top-flight on Tuesday night, in which Akpeyi started the game, Agu called him on his cell phone to know why he was substituted with seven minutes remaining and if he would be available for the World Cup qualifier against Algeria.
“Akpeyi knew he was going to replace Ikeme in the squad on Tuesday night because Alloy Agu called him, ” a top Nigeria Football Federation insider told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Alloy wanted to know why he was substituted in the game around five minutes to go.
“Akpeyi told him he was feeling dizzy, but he is not injured and available for the game. ”
It is right to call the former Warri Wolves goalkeeper the “rejected stone turned cornerstone”, as he is expected to start in goal versus Algeria following the withdrawal of Carl Ikeme from the 24-man roster.
