Tottenham Hotspur Loanee Bentaleb Suffers Injury Ahead Of Algeria Trip To Nigeria
Published: November 04, 2016
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Nabil Bentaleb is racing against the clock to be fit for Algeria’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria next week.
The former France U19 international doubled Schalke’s advantage in their 2-0 win over FC Krasnodar in Group I of the Europa League on Thursday night, but subbed out in the 58th minute after getting a blow on the knee.
In the coming hours, Bentaleb will undergo medical examinations to determine the severity of the injury he picked up.
It would be a big blow to the Desert Foxes manager Georges Leekens if the central midfielder is ruled out of the trip to Nigeria, with Bordeaux midfielder Ounas out of contention and Leicester City star Slimani battling to be fit.
Nigeria had only one injury worry before their biggest game since facing France in the second round of the 2014 World Cup and have called up a replacement for Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.
