Anichebe Exonerates Moyes From Sunderland Poor Form, Blames Players
Published: November 05, 2016
Victor Anichebe has dedicated his goal and Sunderland’s hard fought 2-1 win over Bournemouth to manager David Moyes, and suggested that the former Manchester United boss was not the reason behind the club’s poor form prior to the trip to Dean Court.
The Nigeria national-teamer opened his Premier League account for the Black Cats when he leveled matters in the 33rd minute, then won a penalty 16 minutes from full time which was converted by Jermain Defoe.
“We did this for the manager, over he last few weeks we have not done him justice. It has been a huge transition from last year to this one, ” Anichebe said in his post match comments.
“You could see by the reaction at the final whistle. We have wanted this result for so long.
“It was a must-win game, even when we were down to 10 men, we didn’t sulk we grinded it out.”
Despite cracking his ribs, Anichebe soldiered on until the end of the contest and was pictured lifting a Sunderland fan who managed to get onto the pitch.
“The first half I cracked my rib, I couldn’t move properly.” he explained.
Anichebe arrived the Stadium of Light as a free agent in September, penning a one-season deal until June 2017.
