African Cup Of Nations Sends Ex-Nigeria U20 Star Back To Newcastle United
Published: January 02, 2017
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has confirmed that ex-Nigeria U20 international Sammy Ameobi has been recalled from his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.
The striker joined the Macron Stadium outfit on loan in August and they were keen to extend the agreement, but it has not worked out because Magpies pair Mo Diame and Christian Atsu have been named in the Senegal and Ghana squad respectively for the upcoming African Cup of Nations.
“He has done well with Bolton. He is a player that can play in the wide areas, ” Benitez was quoted as saying by chroniclelive.co.uk.
“We’ll bring him back and see if he is fine and can give us something. We have players going to the African Cup of Nations.
“We have to be sure we have some players. If he’d doing well why not?
“It depends on him if he can stay here or not. It depends how much he can give to us.”
Sammy Ameobi is in the final six months of his contract with Newcastle United.
