Iwobi Headlines Players Of Nigerian Descent Named In Arsenal UEL Squad
Published: September 05, 2017
Emirates FA Cup winners Arsenal have confirmed their roster for the group stage of the UEFA Europa League, with four players of Nigerian descent included by manager Arsene Wenger.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has been included along with fellow Hale End Academy product Chuba Akpom, Tolaji Bola and Aaron Eyoma.
The four youngsters, especially Iwobi, are in line to feature for the Gunners when they tackle German Bundesliga outfit Cologne on September 14 at the Emirates Stadium.
Red Star Belgrade and BATE Borisov are the two remaining teams Arsenal will battle in Group H of the Europa League.
Alex Iwobi will wear the number 17 jersey, Chuba Akpom has been allocated number 32, Tolaji Bola 39 and Aaron Eyoma 45.
The Super Eagles striker was not involved in Nigeria's last two international fixtures due to an undisclosed injury he sustained after the squad was named, and he had to be replaced by CSKA Moscow star Aaron Samuel.
Apart from Akpom, the aforementioned players were named in Arsenal's List B as they have presumably played for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since their 15th birthday.
