Fit Again Daniel Akpeyi Keeps 16th Clean Sheet For Chippa United
Published: September 16, 2017
Nigeria international Daniel Akpeyi kept a clean sheet as Chippa United were held to a goalless draw by Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium (Phokeng, NW) on Saturday evening.
The goalkeeper was due to start on Tuesday against Baroka but there was a last minute change to the line-up and he eventually ended up on the bench.
A day after Chippa United's 3-1 loss to Baroka, manager Dan Malesela was relieved of his responsibilities and Teboho Moloi was appointed as caretaker coach.
Akpeyi's clean sheet today brought his total to sixteen in the PSL since his move to the Chilli Boys in the summer of 2015 from Warri Wolves.
If he keeps more than eight clean sheets this season, he will break his personal record which he set in the 2016-2017 campaign.
The 31-year-old Akpeyi failed a fitness test before Nigeria's double-header against Cameroon earlier this month and had to withdraw from the squad.
