UEFA YL: New Mikel, Aina Missing As Chelsea Shock Roma In Italian Capital
Published: October 31, 2017
Two-time champions Chelsea are three points clear in Group C of the UEFA Youth League following their 2-1 win over Roma at Stadio Tre Fontane (Roma) on Tuesday afternoon.
With England U17 World Cup winning midfielders Callum Hudson-Odoi and Geroge McEachran named in the Blues traveling squad a day after arriving the English capital from India, Nigerian trio Tariq Uwakwe, Faustino Anjorin and Ola Aina's younger brother Jordan Aina were not considered by manager Joe Edwards.
Dujon Sterling bundled home from close range and opened the scoring for the London team in the 16th minute, before Taylor-Crossdale doubled the advantage five minutes later after he was teed up by St Clair.
Masangu stole the ball from McCormick and found Celar, who finished superbly to make it 2-1 with 11 minutes left on the clock.
England U19 international Uwakwe, dubbed the new Obi Mikel, started Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Roma two weeks ago, his only appearance in the UEFA Youth League this season, while Anjorin and Aina are yet to make their debuts.
In their next fixture, Chelsea face Qarabağ U19 at Azərsun Arena, Baku on November 22.
