Chelsea GK Reacts To Possibility Of Starting In Goal Argentina-Nigeria
Published: February 03, 2018
Chelsea goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero has reacted to the possibility of making Argentina's roster for the 2018 World Cup, amid speculation that manager Jorge Sampaoli is mulling over inviting him to the national team.
In the current season, the former Manchester City glovesman has kept three clean-sheets in eight appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
''The technician did not talk to me, I do not know whether to get excited or not, because I do not have any closer contact to believe it,'' said Caballero to Radio Continental.
As a result of an injury sustained by Chelsea's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Caballero started four consecutive games in January.
''Courtois is the starter but we have a very good competition, Conte is going to use him for the Premier and the Champions League, and I know that I will play the other Cups. My goal is to convince him,'' added Caballero.
Nigeria will lock horns with Argentina for the fifth time in the group stage of a World Cup on June 26 at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg.
