Echiejile Declares Himself Fit For Friendlies After Illness; Etebo, Ebuehi & Obi Battling To Be Fit
Published: March 14, 2018
Monaco loanee Elderson Echiejijle has declared himself fit for Nigeria's upcoming friendlies against Poland and Serbia amid uncertainty surrounding his availability for both matches in Europe later this month.
The Cercle Brugge left-back was conspicuously missing from the team's match day squads in the Championship Games Proximus League against KFCO Beerschot fueling speculation that all is not well with the defender.
But a source close to Echiejile has played down suggestions that the player is injured, adding that he'll join the national team at their get-together in Wrocław this coming week.
''He was not feeling too fine, the last two games he couldn't play because of his illness. If you even see his mouth he has blisters, so that's why he didn't play the promotion games,'' the source told allnigeriasoccer.com.
''The list has been released, his name is there so he is coming for the games. He had a little fever but he's very okay now. He is coming for the game.''
Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is sweating on the fitness of three players Torino's Joel Obi, ADO Den Haag's Tyronne Ebuehi and Las Palmas' Oghenekaro Etebo before the training camp starts.
Obi was rested against Roma last week due to a muscular problem, Ebuehi has a groin complaint and Etebo is suffering from discomfort in the quadriceps which led to his substitution at half-time against Villarreal.
