Liverpool Struggle Without Nigerian Wing Wizard, Lose To West Brom Premier League Cup
Published: October 08, 2018
Liverpool lost their opening group game in the Premier League Cup to West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
Nigerian-born winger Bobby Adekanye was not in the Reds squad after suffering an injury while playing for the U19 team against Napoli last Wednesday.
A composed penalty from Callum Morton in the first half was enough for the Baggies to secure three points.
Reflecting on the game, Liverpool U23s boss Neil Critchley admitted that his side lacked the cutting edge to break through the West Brom defense.
He told Liverpool's official webpage : ''There were not a lot of chances for both teams, to be honest.
"We lacked quality, invention and urgency, and ultimately struggled to break them down.
"I have no complaints about the penalty and we got caught out with a long ball over the top.
"We need an improvement in the next game."

Adekanye showed glimpses of what he can do prior to his spell on the sidelines, scoring three goals in his last eight matches for Liverpool's youth teams in all competitions.
