Former Nigeria Striker Ameobi Hails Lacazette For Arsenal Goals, Praises Iwobi For Assist Vs Liverpool
Published: November 05, 2018
Former Nigeria striker Shola Ameobi has offered explanation on why Arsenal striker Alexander Lacazette has been in a huge goal scoring form for the North London side.
Lacazette grabbed a vital equaliser for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Saturday evening at the Emirates Stadium which was his fifth Premier League goal of the season and Ameobi spoke to Goals On Sunday on why the Frenchman has been in terrific form.
James Milner had put the Reds ahead after a poor clearance from Gunners stopper Bernd Leno but Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi assisted Lacazette's goal in the 82nd minute with an exquisite pass.
"Great finish from Lacazette," the former Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers striker told Goals on Sunday.
"Great run, great ball by Iwobi and a fantastic finish.
"I think it's because he's playing week in week out (we are seeing his best).
"I don't think that happened last season, I think he was in and out.
Ameobi believes such consistency can only be maintained with regular game time.
"And as a striker it's important to have that run of games, to know that the manager believes in you.
"I think he's really got that now under the new manager.
"You're just seeing the quality that he's got."
Lacazette scored 129 goals for Lyon before his arrival at Arsenal in the summer of 2017.
