Belgium Dazzler Eden Hazard Closing In On John Obi Mikel's Chelsea Record
Published: November 07, 2018Belgium World Cup star Eden Hazard is closing in on Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel's appearance record at Chelsea, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Chelsea number 12 is fourth on the list of foreign players with the most appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit, having racked up 372 appearances before he departed the club in January 2017.
Petr Cech, who is now at Arsenal, holds the record for the most appearances by any foreign player with 494, followed by Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba at 381, Branislav Ivanovic 377 and John Mikel Obi 372.
Hazard and Gianfranco Zola are tied for fifth place with 312 games but the winger would overtake the Italian if he features in tomorrow's Europa League meeting against BATE Borisov.
Chelsea will be involved in a maximum of 49 matches across all competitions if they qualify for the finals of the League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League this season, meaning Hazard cannot break Mikel's appearance record this term assuming he plays in all the matches.
Mikel made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, 59 in the UEFA Champions League, 4 Europa League, 1 Club World Cup, 32 FA Cup, 20 EFL Cup, 2 UEFA Super Cup and 5 in the Community Shield.
